Athena is located along the rolling hills just west of the Blue Mountains.  Athena is well known for growing a variety of crops including peas, mint, wheat, carrots, along with other specialty crops.  The community is very supportive of Athena Schools and if there is a ballgame in town, you better arrive there early for a seat!  The Athena Library is frequently utilized by the public as they have a large inventory of the areas genealogy.  You can find many scrap books, old newspapers, cemetery records, and much local history at this library.  Athena’s first high school graduation class of 1897 had only ten graduates.  In 1915 a new school was built and was used until 1948.  The family of former Mayor Andrew B. McEwen donated land for a new High School.  The school was named Weston McEwen named after the family. 

Athena offers a public swimming pool which is located in the city’s park.  The park also includes a baseball diamond, skateboard area, a tennis court.  You can also bring your lunch and enjoy yourself at the picnic tables.  Athena’s emergency response team is comprised of local volunteers.
