Oregon’s population increased by nearly 60,000 in the during the year of 2006 compared to last year according to preliminary estimates released in mid-November by Portland State University’s Population Research Centers latest estimate puts Oregon’s population at 3,690,160 in 2006, up 58,720 from 3,631,440 in 2005. While Union County’s neighboring counties shown a loss of population, Union County gained in population. In 2005 the Union County showed a population of 24,950 in 2005 and this year the numbers are up to 25,110. This is a .06% gain in population growth. Union County has had 5 year of a population growth. Over all for the State of Oregon, this is the strongest annual rate of population growth in Oregon since 1997. The population growth in Oregon has been increasing since 2002. The last time Oregon’s population decreased was in 1986.

Economic Indicators of unemployment Rates October 2006for Union County were 4.8% compared to the state average of 4.5% seasonally adjusted average of 5.1%. The United States seasonally average is 4.4%. Average Pay per job in Union County is $28,350 compared to the State average of $36,591 with the United States average of $40,677.
