July Labor Force Statistics

September 19th, 2006 Posted in La Grande Real Estate

Union County’s jobless rate in July was 5.2, showing a slight decrease from June’s 5.3 percent. July’s labor force estimates show 11,666 employed and 639 unemployed local residents. While this progress may seem trivial, July’s unemployment rate was Union County’s lowest since September 2002.

The employment patterns of Union County tend to go crossways in July. Non-farm employment decreases from June to July, yet the jobless rate improves during this time. What is the explanation for this? Although non-farm employment may decline in July, farm employment flourishes. Therefore, Union County labor force statistics maintain stability when farm employment rises and non-farm employment falls.
