Umatilla County Real Estate

Umatilla County has a rich history dating back to the days of the Oregon Trail. Settlement began in 1862 during the gold rush and then grew primarily due to cattle ranching. Cattle ranching became popular with the development of range ground and the summer grazing opportunities in the Blue Mountains.

The County grew further with the development of the railroad in 1881. Soon after, immigrants began clearing land to grow wheat. Irrigation allowed for numerous alternative crops such as watermelons, peas and wheat.

In Umatilla County is located the town of Umatilla. Umatilla is town known for its support for the local community. Anything from sports to education to culture, Umatilla and its residents are huge supporters of their community.

Umatilla County boasts nationally known tourist attractions with Pendleton Round Up and the Pendleton Woolen Mills. The Underground Tours and the Umatilla Fair and the newly multi-million dollar Hamley's steakhouse are also popular attractions. The Columbia River provides boating recreation and beautiful scenery.
