Umatilla County Real Estate

Umatilla CountyUmatilla County has a rich history dating back to the days of the Oregon Trail. Settlement began in 1862 during the gold rush and then grew primarily due to cattle ranching. Cattle ranching became popular with the development of range ground and the summer grazing opportunities in the Blue Mountains.

The County grew further with the development of the railroad in 1881. Soon after, immigrants began clearing land to grow wheat. Irrigation allowed for numerous alternative crops such as watermelons, peas and wheat.

In Umatilla County is located the town of Umatilla. Umatilla is town known for its support for the local community. Anything from sports to education to culture, Umatilla and its residents are huge supporters of their community.

Umatilla County boasts nationally known tourist attractions with Pendleton Round Up and the Pendleton Woolen Mills. The Underground Tours and the Umatilla Fair and the newly multi-million dollar Hamley's steakhouse are also popular attractions. The Columbia River provides boating recreation and beautiful scenery.

Located just south of Pendleton is the town of Pilot Rock. The main economy of Pilot Rock is farming. If you are looking for a great place to buy a farm or just some beautiful land, take a look at Pilot Rock.

Stanfield, like Pilot Rock is a farming community which recieves over 9" of rain per year. Stanfield is located along highway 395 near the I-84 freeway.

Another wonderful community which is in the middle of a real estate development boom is Hermiston. The Hermiston real estate market has a number of new developments which are considered a wonderful place to raise a family.

Just west of the Blue Mountains is the real estate market of Athena Oregon. Filled with history, the town of Athena is a close knit community always looking forward to meeting new members of their community.

Located in the westerly part of the Blue Mountains sits the small town of Milton Freewater. Milton Freewater has always attracted residents who love the outdoors, the mountains and the fertile lands and although development continues to get closer and closer to this community, it remains a wonderful town with great history.
